Llangoed vs Amlwch 200914

First League Match – at home to Amlwch 20/09/14

Today saw Llangoed hosting Amlwch for the first league game of the new season. Amlwch were confident, having beaten us a few weeks ago in a friendly game. The match referee was Dion Lewis and Llangoed were hoping for a good start to the season with a win.

The referee blew his whistle and Llangoed were immediately on the attack with Jacob running down the wing and putting a low cross which slid across the penalty area. Unfortunately there was nobody close enough to connect. The scoring was opened on about the 10 minute mark when Ben was played through and calmly took the ball around the keeper, managing to keep his balance and slotting the ball into the empty net. 1-0 to Llangoed.

An almost identical move three minutes later saw Ben again putting the ball into the Amlwch net. The game was heating up with Amlwch applying pressure and a midfield battle developing between Josh and Sam and their Amlwch opposite numbers. The defence were also under pressure with Lewis, Patrick, Alfie and new signing Ethan all making great contributions in blocking the Amlwch attack and protecting Shauns goal. Three minutes from half time the ball was fired into the Amlwch box from a set piece and Lewis headed the ball up and over a desperate Amlwch goalie to find the back of the net. 3-0 to Llangoed. That is the way it stayed until half time.

The second half began with Amlwch attacking the Beaumaris end and having several shots which were all well-saved by Shaun. Llangoed were being pegged back deeper and only had a few chances, the best of which was when Aaron was played clean through only to be caught offside. Tomas also had a couple of great runs down the left wing and produced crosses that only would have needed the faintest of touches to wrap the game up. Despite chances at both ends, the game finished 3-0 to Llangoed . I’d like to thank Amlwch for their part in a very enjoyable and spirited game which was played in a very sportsmanlike way.
