Llangoed 5 – 3 Amlwch
Scorers for Amlwch were;
Ross Anglesea, Sam Gregson, Cai Jones, Nathaniel Evans (2)
Amlwch came to Llangoed on a hot Saturday morning. Amlwch were playing a return match after the 3-3 draw at Amlwch last month. Both teams had a few players missing but had managed to field 13 players each.
The game kicked off and Llangoed quickly took control with all the running in the first 10 minutes happening in the Amlwch half. Ross came close 8 minutes in with a dinked shot which just ran wide of the keeper’s left post. The Llangoed defence was playing high up the field and Ethan made several excellent tackles to break down the Amlwch attacks before they really began. Cai and Ross were both close with shots that were parried wide by the Amlwch keeper.
On the 10 minute mark, Nathaniel collected a pass from Sam and went round the Amlwch defender before calmly firing the ball low and to the keepers right to put Llangoed 1-0 ahead.
A couple of minutes later Sam dispossessed the Amlwch number 7 just outside of the area and fired the ball from range watching it fly into the top right corner. Llangoed were 2-0 up and firmly in control.
Llangoed were enjoying themselves now and on 18 minutes, Cai struck low from close range and the Amlwch keeper stopped the shot but couldn’t hold the ball and Cai scored from the rebound only to see it disallowed by the linesman for offside.
Five minutes later, Cai received a pass from Sam, turned his marker and he went round the goalkeeper to fire the ball into the open net. There was no question about it this time. Llangoed 3-0.
Just before half time, Jacob ran the ball down the wing and skipped past a tackle, shooting the ball past the diving Amlwch keeper only to see it cleared off the line by an Amlwch defender who got the ball tangled in his feet and could not play it to safety before Ross ran in and clipped the ball into the net. 4-0 Llangoed and half time.
Llangoed swapped the team around for the second half with Sam going off for Jay and Cai going off for Dylan. Amlwch came out having obviously been given a bit of motivation at half time. They started the second half with determination and were rewarded 5 minutes later when the Amlwch striker chipped Shaun who was caught off his line and could only watch as the ball dipped in at the far post. 4-1.
Amlwch were unlucky when Tom handled the ball in the box but the referee played advantage and the Amlwch striker shot just over the bar.
Amlwch scored next ten minutes later with a throw in that found the unmarked striker who was able to turn and shoot a lovely half-volley which sailed over Shaun to make it 4-2.
Llangoed were up next when Nathaniel struck from distance, the ball hit the post and rebounded into his path and he hit the follow up sweetly to make it 5-2 to Llangoed.
Amlwch were down but not out and there was still time left for the Amlwch winger to show some pace, beating the Llangoed defence round the outside and firing the ball with a wicked strike from point blank range which Shaun couldn’t keep out. 5-3.
And that was how the match finished. Both teams should be proud of how they battled in very hot conditions and hopefully neither of us will be too far off the pace of the older teams when the season starts for real.
Well done to Llangoed and thanks to Amlwch for a good game.
